A hidden gem

Bosvathick is a country house south west of Penryn and Falmouth. It has been in the hands of the Tyrell family since the 1760's. The house continues to be a family home and the focus of family life, yet retains much of the appearance and historic features of life a century ago.

The little-known gardens have mature camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons and hydrangeas. 2013 was the start of a major redevelopment of large areas of the garden, formerly overgrown with laurel. Visitors will now be able to see summer flowering herbaceous borders, a newly planted orchard and the early spring visitor will be greeted by several thousand spring bulbs followed by native bluebells in early May.

The Georgian house is grade II listed, built in 1760 and substantially extended in Victorian times. It is wonderfully quiet here, being hidden in the heart of the countryside and with a long drive. It is surrounded by 10 acres of garden, including a 0.75 acre lake.

Near the north bank of the Helford River, Bosvathick is well situated for visiting some of the loveliest gardens and other historic houses in Cornwall.
