Contemporary art in mid Cornwall
Mid Cornwall Galleries is situated in an old school next door to St. Mary's Church, to which it originally belonged. Sturdily built of local granite in the Victorian era it has plenty of parking space in the old playground.
The Galleries were formed in these splendid premises in 1980. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the use to which the school has been put, the old classrooms have been opened out and show to perfection the abundance of fine work gathered here. On display are ceramics, glass, silks, leather, woodwork, jewellery, sculpture, as well as countless other intriguing things.
Many fine paintings in water colours and oils can be seen plus etchings, collages and prints, giving the overall assurance that some of the finest work in the Country is to be found here. All of the work on show is by British artists and crafts men and women.
The Galleries present eight or nine Exhibitions a year, this adds to the general delight of the frequent visitor. Members of the Craft Potters Association are amongst the many prestigious exhibitors.
All in all a visit here is quite an experience and a moment of respite from such a wonderful assault on the senses can be had over a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
